Thanks to all of you that attended, participated and joined at our two recent Arroyo Food Co-op events. Each time we had 50 or 60 people come by. It was exciting to learn of your enthusiasm for a community-owned grocery store!
The Zane Grey Estate social was a nice laid-back way to get to know each other a little better. Great food and drink, a wonderful historic location AND goat tours were enjoyed. We were pleased to be able to complete the legal review of our membership agreement a little early - copies were first made available that evening.
A few days later, at the Community Center event, lots of people brought their checkbooks and jumped at the opportunity to get this co-op started. We're up to 40 members now! More agreements are arriving every postal day. About 67% are at the full ownership amount. These are encouraging numbers so the Founding Team has decided to move forward with incorporation and begin an all-out membership drive effort.
Our articles of incorporation have since been cleared by our legal team. That paperwork got shipped to the Secretary of State last Friday. Filing there could take as long as 30 days. Opening a bank account will have to wait until then so the Co-op is operating with loans from my wife and I. Your member checks are safely waiting in a safe.
The Founding Team is re-organizing to gear up for our upcoming tasks. To reach our membership goals, and to have fun doing it, we'll need a lot of help. Thanks to all those that have volunteered to lend a hand. We'll be getting back to you soon. Also watch for details on our upcoming Volunteer Orientation. We're going to try to make it easy for new folks to find a role that they're excited about.
